Sandusky Bay Ice Haulers owner Brian Storm has tapped veteran baseball coach Bill Clay to lead the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League baseball team as head coach in the organizations inaugural season.
Clay will lead the team on the field as they play host to the GLSCL at Sports Force Park at Cedar Point.
“What a great opportunity for the Sandusky Bay Ice Haulers to be led by a coach the caliber of Bill Clay,” said Storm. “Players and the program are sure to benefit from having Coach Clay as part of this organization.”
With more than 40 years of coaching experience at both the collegiate and high school level, the 68-year old joins the organization following a stint as the head coach of the Texarkana Twins of the Texas Collegiate League. Coach Clay has also led the Geneva Redwings of the New York Collegiate Baseball League, the Liberal Bee Jays of the Kansas Jayhawk Summer Collegiate Baseball League and the Winnipesaukee (NH) Muskrats of the New England Collegiate Baseball League.
“I couldn’t be more excited about managing the Sandusky Bay Ice Haulers in their inaugural season,” said Clay. “The Ice Haulers General Manager, Ray Neill has put together a great roster of players. I love working with players at this level and helping them reach their goal of someday playing professional baseball. The Sandusky Bay Ice Haulers will be a fun and exciting team to watch.”
In addition to his coaching background, Clay is a former independent league and NCAA Division 1 baseball player and has served as a professional scout for the Cincinnati Reds, Philadelphia Phillies and New York Mets since 1985.
Clay and his wife live on a ranch in Texas, following his retirement as a history teacher.
