The Ice Haulers came into tonight’s game with 10 straight wins. After a win on the road against the Michigan Monarchs, the Haulers headed back to Sandusky to take on the Galion Graders. Andino Vecchiolla (Freshman, Seton Hill University) took the mound for Sandusky Bay.

After two shutout innings by both starting pitchers, the Ice Haulers struck first in the third inning. The designated hitter, Tucker McEnroe (Freshman, Texas A&M – Corpus Christi) had his first game coming off his injury. He led the bottom of the third with a double, setting up the first RBI with a 4-3 groundout, hit by the third baseman, Bryce Richey (Junior, Tiffin University).

In the bottom of the fourth, Nick Mueller (Freshman, Texas A&M – Corpus Christi) led off with a single. Scott Mackiewicz (Freshman, University of Toledo) would then walk after a full count at-bat. After a wild pitch by the Graders, Mueller and Mackiewicz would advance to second and third. The shortstop, Mark Connelly (Sophomore, Lansing Community College) would then groundout to second, driving in Mueller. This would make it a 2-0 lead for the Ice Haulers. However, an extra run would come off another wild pitch by the Graders, allowing Mackiewicz to score.

Andino Vecchiolla would go six innings, striking out nine batters, allowing just one earned run, with three hits. “I felt more comfortable compared to my last two starts. I did a lot more work during the week and found the comfort zone. Haulers are hot,” Vecchiolla said.

As the Graders trailed 3-1, they would gain an extra run in the seventh, making the defecate to just one run. However, the Ice Haulers gained two insurance runs in the seventh inning. Tucker McEnroe would have an RBI single, as well as Cambell Conard (Freshman, East Tennessee state University).

The Ice Haulers were victorious tonight against the Graders, with a score of 5-2. The Ice Haulers are now currently on an 11-game winning streak. The team has improved their record to 18-6. The Ice Haulers will begin their long road trip tomorrow, as they head to Lima to take on the Locos.

Gino Sabatine (Senior, Marietta College) took the mound for the Ice Haulers tonight, as they traveled to Adrian, Michigan. The Haulers took on the Monarchs, looking for their 10th straight win. The game was delayed for 54 minutes due to potential rain, with a high heating index temperature. The heat however did not stop the heat from the Ice Hauler bats.

In the top of the first, the Ice Haulers would make a jump start against the Monarchs, scoring three runs. After a sacrifice fly hit by Mark Connelly (Sophomore, Lansing Community College), the designated hitter, Tyler Byrd (Freshman, Texas A&M - Corpus Christi) would drill the ball to deep left center field, for a 2-RBI double.  This would give the Ice Haulers a 3-0 lead, going into the bottom of the first.

The Monarchs would then score two unanswered runs off Sabatine, hoping to stay in the ballgame, as they trailed 3-2. However, the Ice Haulers continued seeing the ball well as the game went on. During the top of the second, the Haulers would load the bases for the dangerous, Scott Mackiewicz (Freshman, University of Toledo). Mackiewicz would hit a line drive single, scoring Zachary Campbell (Senior, Tiffin University) and Braden Durham (Sophomore, University of South Carolina – Upstate). This would give the Haulers a 5-2 lead.

During the top of the third, the Ice Haulers would tally up five more runs. First, the Ice Haulers would gain an insurance run by a bases loaded walk. Then, the Tiffin Dragon, Zachary Campbell (Senior, Tiffin University) would hit a two-run single extending the Hauler lead, with a score of 8-2. Mackiewicz and Connelly would each follow up with RBI singles after Campbell’s hit. Campbell’s hit also increased his hitting streak to seven games. “It feels great to be seeing the ball well and continuing to improve as the season goes on. I am glad to be a part of this team’s success, and I am happy we keep winning games.” After the third inning, the Ice Haulers lead 10-2.

The Ice Haulers would continue to pour it on the Monarchs, scoring four more runs in the fifth inning. This gave the Ice Haulers a 14-3 lead at this point in the game. The shortstop, Jordan Andrade (Freshman, University of Nevada Las Vegas) would have the biggest hit in the inning, as he would obtain a two-run double. Andrade has now increased his hitting streak to six games, as he continues to stay clutch. “I honestly did not know I had a hitting streak going on for that long. My goal was to improve from how I was doing in the beginning of the season. Going hitless for four of the first five games, and comparing to my hits now, has been a big difference,” Andrade said. Scott Mackiewicz would also obtain another RBI in the inning. He would finish the night 4-4, with four RBIs.

As the Ice Haulers would obtain another run in the sixth inning, they would run rule the Monarchs, with a score of 15-3.  Gino Sabatine would earn the winning decision, as Chase Norris (Freshman, West Virginia State University) would earn a save, since he pitched the last three innings.

The Ice Haulers have now won 10 straight games and take a three-game lead over Jet Box in the North Division. The Ice Haulers will be back home tomorrow in Sandusky, to take on the Galion Graders. First pitch will be at 7:00pm.

The Ice Haulers came into tonight’s game, hoping to extend their win streak up to seven games. Trailing just a half game behind the Jet Box Baseball Club, the Ice Haulers would take on the Royal Oak Leprechauns. The Leprechauns had swept Jet Box in a double header the previous day. Jeremy Grayley (Junior, West Virginia State University) took the mound for the Ice Haulers.

Again, the Ice Haulers would trail first. The Leprechauns would draw first blood, knocking in four runs off Jeremy Grayley. However, the Ice Haulers have been in this situation many of times this season.

The Ice Haulers would get two runs back in the bottom of the first, after a couple of RBI hits by Drew Holderbach (Senior, Marietta College) and Mark Connelly (Sophomore, Lansing Community College). This would cut the Leprechaun lead in half, with a score of 4-2.

The Ice Haulers would then score two more runs in the second inning and three in the third. After five unanswered runs, the Ice Haulers then lead 10-4. Notable at bats during those two innings included an RBI single by Zachary Campbell (Senior, Tiffin University) and Scott Mackiewicz’s (Freshman, University of Toledo) two RBI single. Both big hits came in the third inning. However, Mackiewicz also had another RBI in the second inning, putting him at three RBIs total already in the ballgame.

After the Leprechauns scored two more runs in the top of the sixth inning, the Ice Haulers would get the two runs back in the bottom of the sixth and seventh inning. The big runs came from a Leprechaun wild pitch, allowing the left fielder, Dominic Magliocca (Freshman, Miami University) to score in the sixth. Then, in the seventh inning, Nolan O’ Connell (Sophomore, University of Findlay) came into pitch hit. He would have a big Sacrifice Fly RBI, allowing the Centerfielder, Nick Mueller (Freshman, Texas A&M Corpus Christi) to score. The Ice Haulers were looking to continue to be a dangerous team tonight in the North Division, as they took on the Lima Locos. This would be their fourth meeting of the season, as the Ice Haulers lead the series 2-1. On the mound for the Ice Haulers tonight, was Brandon Bergert (Sophomore, Seton Hill).

Like past game, the Ice Haulers would be the first ones to trail in the ballgame. In the top of the second inning, Brandon Bergert gave up two unearned runs for the Lima Locos, after a groundball error by the Hauler third-baseman, Mark Connelly (Sophomore, Lansing Community College).

Trailing 2-0 in the bottom of the second, the Ice Haulers answered right back, scoring three runs. After hitting into a double play, the next three batters for the Ice Haulers would reach on base with a walk. The clutch hitting short-stop, Jordan Andrade (University of Nevada Las Vegas) would then hit a two RBI single to tie the game. Then the Tiffin Dragon, Zach Campbell (Senior, Tiffin University) would drive in the third run for the Ice Haulers, giving them a 3-2 lead.

After a shutout inning for Bergert in the third inning, the Ice Haulers would gain an insurance run. Soon as I watched it fly, I knew it was gone. I am happy that we all are seeing the ball well,” Mackiewicz said. Mackiewicz now has four home runs of the season.

After the Ice Haulers lead 4-2, the Locos would answer back scoring five unanswered runs. This gave the Locos a 7-4 lead. However, with the Ice Haulers being in this situation many times throughout the season, they were not done yet.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, the Ice Haulers would rally in seven runs. After the Ice Haulers scored three unanswered runs in the inning, four more of the team’s runs came off a big swing. The big hitter, Drew Holderbach (Senior, Marietta College) came up with the first grand slam hit at Sports Force Parks, which would give the Ice Haulers an 11-7 lead. “Getting player of the week, and now the first grand slam at Field 3 is an honor. The Ice Haulers would hold down the Locos to a close 11-10 victory. The Ice Haulers now lead the series, 3-1. Owen Kovacs would obtain his first win of the season. Grayson Thurman would achieve his fifth save.

The Ice Haulers have now won 13 out of their last 14 games. The Ice Haulers now trail just one game back in the North, after the Jet Box Baseball Club would be swept by the Royal Oak Leprechauns in a double-header. The Ice Haulers will face the well-contested Leprechauns tomorrow night, at 7:00pm in Sandusky, Ohio.

The Graders jumped out in front first, as their designated hitter, Nick Christopher would hit an RBI ground-out, driving in their lead-off hitter, Kaito Hara. Vecchiolla would struggle to find the strike zone for the Ice Haulers, as he would walk the centerfielder, Jay Luikart with the bases loaded. This walk would lead to a 2-0 lead, in favor of the Graders.

Then the catcher, Cambell Conard (Freshman, East Tennessee State University) would drive in two big runs, with another RBI single for the Ice Haulers. “It felt good to have a good line drive today. After being in a little slump, I was due for one. It was a lot of fun out there tonight, Conard said.  The third baseman, Jordan Andrade (Freshman, University of Nevada Las Vegas) would then hit a ground-rule double to left field, driving in two more runs. The last run of the inning came off an RBI single, by Nick Mueller (Freshman, Texas A&M - Corpus Christi). The Ice Haulers now lead, 6-3.

The rest of the game would turn into an offensive batting duel between the two teams, as there were 23 hits combined. Afterwards, the right fielder, Chris LoCurto (Freshman, East Tennessee State University) would reach on base with a walk. The Ice Haulers came into tonight’s game, winning eight out of the last ten games they have played. Jason Young (Sophomore, University of Toledo) took the mound tonight against the Grand Lake Mariners, hoping to obtain his first win of the season.

The Ice Haulers drew first blood, as the third baseman, Mark Connelly (Sophomore, Lansing Community College) hit a two-run blast to right field, in the bottom of the second inning.

As the Ice Haulers lead 2-0 in the bottom of the fifth inning, the Ice Hauler centerfielder, Nick Mueller (Freshman, Texas A&M - Corpus Christi) also hit a homer to right field. This extended the lead to 3-0 for the Ice Haulers.

After five innings of work, Jason Young would end his solid performance. He allowed just one hit, with no runs allowed, striking out eight Grand Lake Mariner batters.

During the bottom of the sixth, the Ice haulers would have a rally. First, the Ice Haulers would gain a couple of insurance runs, from a Mariner wild-pitch and a bases loaded walk. This would allow the Ice Haulers to extend their lead up to 5-0. Then, the short-stop, Jordan Andrade (Freshman, University of Nevada Las Vegas) hit a two RBI single, which gave the Ice haulers a 7-0 lead. “It felt great getting a big hit on my birthday. It opened the game up, and it always helps getting the team some insurance runs,” Andrade said.

Going into the ninth inning, the Mariners would not go down without a fight. The Mariners would score their first four runs off Nick Saranczak (Senior, West Virginia State University), as he would not be able to close the game. This would allow the Ice Hauler closer, Grayson Thurman (Sophomore, University of South Carolina Upstate) to come out for his first save opportunity. With only one out for Thurman to obtain, he would strike out the last batter. Thurman’s save would be the first for the Ice Haulers this season, and in history for the organization. “It felt good to be a part of history, and it is a huge milestone for me. It will definitely be a moment to remember,” Thurman said.

As the Mariners would rally in the ninth inning, their rally came up short. The Ice Haulers would hold on to win 7-4. The Ice Haulers have now won nine out of their last ten games. Jason Young would get the winning decision, making it his first win of the season. “It was nice to get that first win. Feels good to be a big part of this victory tonight. More importantly, I cannot thank the batters enough, helping me get the decision. I am glad we are continuing to stay hot,” Young said.

The Ice Haulers will get a well-deserved rest, as they will be back in action on Tuesday. The team will be back to take on the Michigan Monarchs for a double-header. Game time will be at 3:00pm at Sports Force Parks, located in Sandusky, Ohio.

Brandon Bergert would obtain the winning decision. “There is a difference between losing a game and going on a losing streak. Tonight, we had a great comeback win after a tough loss,” General Manager Ray Neil said.

The Ice Haulers will be back at Sports Force Parks tomorrow, as they hope to get their second win against the Grand Lake Mariners.
