The Sandusky Bay Ice Haulers fell in Game Three of the series with the Muskegon Clippers 13-3. The Ice Haulers jumped to an early lead in the first inning with Garett Pike’s triple. Pike then tagged up to run home on Ty Stolarski’s at-bat.
. Sandusky Bay held onto the lead until the third inning. The Clippers had an exciting third inning with Spencer Nelson, Jacob Anderson, Trent Nielson, and Nelson Phillips all hitting singles and doubles. Spencer Nelson also had a two run homerun in the fourth inning. . The Ice Haulers tried to rally back in the seventh inning with a two run homerun from Dom Magliocca. Unfortunately for the Ice Haulers, the seventh inning rally was too late to throw runs onto the board. . Jacob Krausher and Bobby Perebzak came in to pitch some relief for the game, but could not close out the scoring. . The Muskegon Clippers put up two more runs in the eighth inning to leave their mark on the series. Spencer Nelson once again got into scoring position for the Clippers along with Trent Nielson. The Clippers ended the game with a run rule in the eighth. . Tomorrow begins our road trip series against the Royal Oak Leprechauns. Game time for Friday night is set for 7PM. The Sandusky Bay Ice Haulers defeated the Muskegon Clippers by a score of 7-6 Wednesday night. The Muskegon Clippers took an early lead in the first inning with triples from Stoney Smith and Jacob Anderson. Trent Nelson provided a sacrifice fly to close out the inning with a 2-0 lead.
The Sandusky Bay Ice Haulers answered back quickly with Jacob Armsey’s single batting in Eli Snider. Cameron Darrington of the Ice Haulers struck out Stoney Smith of the Clippers in the top of the third and allowed Mason Montgomery and Eli Snider to defensively shut down the Clippers to close out the inning. Garett Pike came in swinging hot doubling to get in scoring position for the Ice Haulers. Eli Snider also got into scoring position and Kross’s single batted in Pike to tie the game up. The Muskegon Clippers answered back to take the lead again in fourth with Logan Todd and Cooper Mills both singling to get on base. Josh Kross defensively threw out Stoney Smith to end the inning. The Ice Haulers entered the fourth inning swinging hot to level out the score once more. Nathan Archer started the inning off with a double and Eli Snider’s single brought in another run. The Ice Haulers took the lead in the sixth and held on until the seventh. Spencer Nelson of the Muskegon Clippers had a single home-run to tie things up, but the Ice Haulers rallied to secure the win in the eighth. Josh Kross’s ground rule double brought in Garret Pike to close-out the win for the Ice Haulers. Pitcher, Cameron Darrington, earned the start for the Ice Haulers on the mound and tallied two strikeouts in his four innings pitched. Jacob Boyd tallied one strikeout in his three innings pitched and Owen Kovacs threw for the save in the eight and ninth innings. Kovacs threw three strikeouts in his two innings pitched to end the game. The Sandusky Bay Ice Haulers will be back in action tomorrow to close out their Three Game series with the Muskegon Clippers. Brady Renfro, Sophomore at Valparaiso University, swung at a 2-1 count to double, bringing in Snider for the first RBI of the inning. Dom Magliocca and Jacob Armsey both walked to load the bases for Alec Mendoza. Mendoza, Junior at Notre Dame College, slapped a double to left field bringing in both Magliocca and Armsey, tallying the two-run RBI. The third inning swinging fest did not end there for the Ice Haulers. Nathan Archer, Sophomore at Bowling Green State University, was walked to first. Archer stole second during Stolarski’s at bat. Ty Stolarski, Sophomore at the University of Akron, hit a single into right field which batted in Nathan Archer. Garret Pike and Brady Renfro also batted in runners from an error on the pitcher and a sacrifice fly. Pike and Renfro tallied RBI’s to round out the inning. The fifth, sixth, and seventh innings were quiet for both sides. Gage Gillott, Jake Armsey, and Alec Mendoza were sound defensively, keeping to only four batters throughout these innings. Gillott finished with seven strikeouts in his seven innings pitched. Ty Munroe, Sophomore at Terra State Community College, came in to pitch relief in the eighth and ninth innings. Munrow tallied no hits, no errors, one walk, and two strikeouts in his two innings pitched. Jet Box’s Cole Daniels struggled in the first inning hitting 3 of the Ice Haulers to land them in scoring positions. Dom Magliocca, Sophomore at Miami University Hamilton, slapped home a double bringing in Mason Montgomery and Brady Renfro to show a scoreline of 5-1 to finish the inning. The Haulers were held to five runs until the bottom of the fifth inning where Magliocca brought in Andrew Horvath with a single. From there, the Ice Haulers went on to score four more runs and run away with the game in the seventh inning stretch. Archer went four for five at the plate and added three stolen bases along with a 2-run RBI in the seventh inning to secure the win. After a loss from Game one of the three game series, the Ice Haulers fell in game two 4-3. After a suspended game due to rain, the Haulers and Locos rested up to pick up from the top of the 3rd for the 9-inning regulation finish.
Pitcher, Francisco (Frankie) Olivarez, earned the start for the Haulers tallying one strikeout in his two innings pitched. The Haulers brought in three other pitchers to try to save the lead after Brayden White of the Lima Locos had a 2 run RBI in the top of the 5th inning. Matt Gauer, So. from Indiana State University, threw out 3 batters in a row to advance the Locos on to victory. Unfortunately for the Haulers, their scoring was halted at this point, but defensively kept the game to a 4-3 finish in favor of the Locos. The Haulers entered Game Three of the series with an 0-2 record. Scoring started early in Game 3 with Bryant Herring of the Lima Loco’s double which brought in 3 runners. The Ice Haulers tied it up in the bottom of the second inning with Michael Pollard scoring on a wild pitch. The Locos then went on to take the lead in the top of the third and didn’t slow down from there. Carson Garner of the Locos hit a screaming double to bring Cade Sadler of the Locos home. The Haulers struggled the fourth inning as the Locos brought in four more runners from there. The Haulers tried to rally in the bottom of the fourth and fifth innings, but their fourth inning lull was too steep to overcome. The Ice Haulers will be back at home tomorrow night at 7PM to take on JetBox. This series against JetBox will span from Friday June 10 through Sunday June 12 to conclude the Hauler’s first week in GLSCL play. The Ice Haulers opened their 2022 season with a tough home loss to the Lima Locos, 5-4. It was a defensive battle for the first five innings until The Locos put a run on the board with Cade Sadler getting batted in by Jake Hutchins.
The Ice Haulers would respond with a grand slam from Garret Pike, Senior at the University of Toledo, in the bottom of the sixth to put them up 4-1. That would be the extent of Ice Haulers scoring. The Locos then went on to score four more runs in the seventh and eighth innings to put them up 5-4. Casey Maniglia, Senior at The Ohio State University, had a solid start to the season. Pitching for four innings, Maniglia only gave up one hit, and did not allow a single run. He finished with six strikeouts.
