Gino Sabatine (Senior, Marietta College) took the mound for Sandusky Bay, hoping to get his sixth win of the season.

The Ice Haulers would lead after the first inning, with a score of 4-0.

Sandusky Bay would continue to pour it on Royal Oak, as they obtained eight runs in the third inning. However, the remaining runs came from Zachary Campbell (Senior, Tiffin University), who had a two-run single in the inning. Sandusky now led 12-0 after the third inning.

The last run for the Ice Haulers came off a sacrifice fly, hit by Braden Durham (Sophomore, Seton Hill University). His fly ball to right field brought in Mark Connelly to score.

Trailing 6-0 in the bottom of the fourth, the Ice Haulers and the Locos got caught in heavy rain on July 16th. The game was resumed today, as the Locos had two men on base with two outs.

The Locos would score five unanswered runs, as the Ice Haulers fell to the Locos in the halted game, with a score of 11-1. Jordan Andrade (Freshman, University of Nevada Las Vegas) would get the only RBI for the Haulers, to score Chris LoCurto (Freshman, East Tennessee State University). LoCurto had a single early in the inning.

The Ice Haulers would look to clinch home field advantage, and the North division in the second game. Brandon Bergert (Sophomore, Seton Hill University) took the mound, coming in with successful numbers over the Locos.

The seven-inning game started with the Locos drawing first blood. The Locos would strike with two runs in the second inning with an RBI single, then an RBI groundout.

The Locos would strike four more runs in the third inning, as they would stun Brandon Bergert, who has been the Locos threat all season. The Locos would lead with a score of 6-0.

In the bottom of the fourth, the Ice Haulers got a run back. Mark Connelly (Sophomore, Lansing Community College) hit an RBI single to score Scott Mackiewicz (Freshman, University of Toledo). However, the Locos would get a solo shot in the top of the fifth, to keep their six-run lead.

In the bottom of the fifth, the Ice Haulers scored four runs to close the gap. Drew Holderbach (Senior, Marietta College) would hit into a double play. However, the groundball scored the designated hitter, Bryce Richey (Junior, Tiffin University), giving Holderbach an RBI. This was Holderbach’s first game coming off his injury earlier in the season.  Scott Mackiewicz would score off a wild pitch, to close the gap even further. Jackson Green (Freshman, East Tennessee State University) would then cut the lead to two, hitting a two-run homer to score him and Three Hillier (Freshman, Liberty University). The game was now scored 7-5, in favor of the Locos.

In the bottom of the seventh, the Ice Haulers had one more chance to tie, or walk-off with a win.  The inning began with Nick Mueller (Freshman, Texas A&M University – Corpus Christi) hitting a single to left-centerfield. He would advance to second on a wild pitch, as Zachary Campbell (Senior, Tiffin University) was up at the plate. Campbell would ground out, leaving Mueller at second. Campbell’s college teammate, Bryce Richey would also ground out, leaving Mueller at second. With two outs, Scott Mackiewicz advanced to first, getting hit by the pitch. Mark Connelly would walk to keep the inning going for the Ice Haulers, as the bases were now loaded with two outs. Drew Holderbach would be next at the plate, hoping to keep the inning going. During the at-bat, the Haulers would get a run, as Mueller would score on a wild pitch. This brought the Loco lead down to just one run. With runners on second and third base, Holderbach was walked. However, a base running error by Scott Mackiewicz would lead to the final out. Mackiewicz thought the bases were loaded, as he caught himself in a rundown to be tagged out.

The Locos held on to win 7-6, as the Ice Haulers could not clinch the division in tonight’s two games. However, the Ice Haulers would take the series over the Locos this season, winning five out of nine.

The stage is set between the Locos and the Ice Haulers for the first round of the playoff. Currently for home field advantage, the Locos trail the Ice Haulers by two games. With two games left on the season, the Ice Haulers will look to clinch both the division and home field advantage, as they will travel to Royal Oak on Wednesday, to take on the Leprechauns at 7:05pm.

After their last game was halted, and suspended in Lima, the Ice Haulers were still looking for that final victory to get them to the postseason. The Ice Haulers traveled to Celina for the last time, to take on the Grand Lake Mariners. On the mound, it was Luke Lushutka's (Freshman, St. Bonaventure University) turn in the rotation.

In the top of the first, Mark Connelly (Sophomore, Lansing Community College) hit a three-run blast to give the Ice Haulers the start they needed. However, Grand Lake would also tally up three runs in the first inning, and the game was tied heading into the second.

Grand Lake had a great response, but that did not stop the Ice Haulers for staying hot at the plate. The Ice Haulers would score four more runs in the second inning, making it a 7-3 lead for Sandusky Bay. The first RBI came from the centerfielder, Nick Mueller (Freshman, Texas A&M University - Corpus Christi). He hit a sacrifice fly to score Dominic Magliocca (Freshman, Miami University). The next run came from an RBI fielder's choice, hit by Scott Mackiewicz (Freshman, University of Toledo). His RBI would bring in Jordan Andrade (Freshman, University of Nevada Las Vegas), who had a single earlier in the inning. The last two runs would come from an error by the Grand Lake infielders, which scored Zachary Campbell (Senior, Tiffin University) and Scott Mackiewicz.

Bryce Richey (Junior Tiffin University) would extend the Ice Hauler lead with a sacrifice fly, to give Jordan Andrade another run. Andrade had another single in that inning also. The sacrifice fly gave the Haulers an 8-3 lead.

Heading into the seventh inning, the Ice Haulers were hungry for more runs, as they scored two more. The catcher, Three Hillier (Freshman, Liberty University) hit an RBI single to score Mark Connelly. Later in the inning, Three Hillier would advance to second and third. Both advancements came from wild pitches. This would allow Tucker McEnroe (Freshman, Texas A&M University - Corpus Christi) to hit a sacrifice fly, to bring in Hillier.

With the Ice Haulers leading 10-3, the Mariners struck back with a solo shot. The homerun made it a 10-4 game, in favor of Sandusky.

The Ice Haulers would answer back with a solo homerun, hit by Nick Mueller. This extended the lead to a score of 11-4, in favor for the Ice Haulers. Mueller now has eight homeruns on the season and is now tied for second in the league. He is one of the individuals in the league chasing Scott Mackiewicz for most homers on the year.

Tucker McEnroe would have another RBI in the ninth inning, as he hit an RBI triple to score Mark Connelly.

The Ice Haulers would clinch a spot in the playoffs, after a 12-4 victory over the Grand Lake Mariners. Luke Lushutka got his second winning decision of the season. He went five total innings, striking out seven Mariners, and only allowed three earned runs. More notable stats to mention, Zachary Campbell and Mark Connelly both went 3-5 at the plate tonight.

The next goal for Sandusky Bay is to clinch home field advantage, as they currently lead the North by four games over the Lima Locos. The Ice Haulers will resume their halted game with Lima on Monday. The scheduled game against the Locos will begin afterwards. The halted game will start at 5:00pm.

The Sandusky Bay Ice Haulers came off a win last night, over the Grand Lake Mariners. Sandusky Bay was looking to get closer to clinching that playoff spot, as they took on the Galion Graders. Gino Sabatine (Senior, Marietta College) took the mound for the Ice Haulers, hoping to achieve his sixth win of the season.

The Ice Haulers drew first blood in the first inning, as the dangerous Scott Mackiewicz (Freshman, University of Toledo) hit a two-run blast to right field. This home run was Mackiewicz’s eighth of the season.

The Ice Haulers would get another run driven in the second inning, as Nick Mueller (Freshman, Texas A&M University – Corpus Christi) hit a solo shot to right field. This gave the Haulers a 3-0 lead.

In the bottom of the third, Sandusky Bay would drive in three more runs. The inning began with the Ice Haulers putting the first three men on base, with back-to-back singles and a walk. Nolan O’Connell (Freshman, University of Findlay) was then hit by a pitch, with the bases loaded. The hit-by-pitch drove in the designated hitter, Mark Connelly (Sophomore, Lansing Community College). Nick Mueller had his second RBI of the game, as he hit a single to shallow right field, to score the catcher, Three Hillier (Freshman, Liberty University). Zachary Campbell (Senior, Tiffin University) would tally an RBI, to score his college teammate, Bryce Richey (Junior, Tiffin University). The big third inning gave Sandusky a 6-0 lead.

With the Ice Haulers leading 6-0, the Graders were not going to go down without a fight. In the top of the fifth, the Graders would stun Gino Sabatine with a grand-slam, and a two-run blast to tie the game. Sabatine would finish the game going 4.1 innings. He would allow seven hits and six earned runs. However, Sabatine would tally up six strikeouts.

Tied at six runs respectively, the Ice Haulers regained the lead, as Scott Mackiewicz struck the Graders again with a solo shot to right field. Mackiewicz now has nine home runs on the season.

In the top of the seventh, the Graders would give themselves a solo shot, to tie the game again at seven apiece.

In the bottom of the seventh, Sandusky Bay drove in four runs to not only take the lead, but to open the gap. Mark Connelly would have a two-RBI single, but an error in the Grader outfield caused another run to come into score for the Haulers. This gave the Ice Haulers a 10-7 lead. Later in the inning, Bryce Richey would hit an RBI single to give the Haulers an 11-7 lead.

The Ice Haulers were not finished, as they extended their lead in the eighth inning. Nick Mueller would have his second home run of the season, as he hit a three-run blast to right field. Mueller now has seven home runs on the season, with 25 RBIs.

The Ice Haulers would win the game, with a score of 14-7. The Ice Haulers are now just one victory, or one Jet Box defeat away from clinching a playoff spot.

More to mention from this game, Scott Mackiewicz continues to strive for that triple-crown, as he leads the league in RBIs and home-runs. However, he stands at fourth in batting average. “Honestly, the triple crown is not a primary goal for me. It would be great to achieve, however my primary goal is to lead our team to the playoffs and get to the championship. I hope everyone continues to see the ball well, and we keep getting big hits,” Mackiewicz said.

The Ice Haulers will travel to Lima, to take on the Locos. The Locos stand behind Sandusky Bay 4.5 games back in the North division. The Haulers will not only look to extend their lead for first place, but to clinch their playoff spot tomorrow. The game will start at 7:00pm.

Landon Smiddy (Sophomore, East Tennessee State University) looked to lead Sandusky to their 15th straight home victory. Before tonight’s home game, the Ice Haulers magic number to clinch the playoffs was at five. The Ice Haulers took on the Grand Lake Mariners, hoping to shrink that number.

In recent past games, the Ice Haulers had trouble seeing the ball, but today that was not an issue. In the first inning, the Ice Haulers scored seven runs. First, Bryce Richey (Junior, Tiffin University) hit a line drive single to centerfield. The Mariner centerfielder would have trouble handling the ball, scoring Zachary Campbell (Senior, Tiffin University) from the error. Mark Connelly (Sophomore, Lansing Community College) would follow up with a triple, scoring Richey. Nolan O’Connell (Sophomore, University of Findlay) would hit an RBI single, scoring Connelly. Braden Durham (Sophomore, Seton Hill University) would obtain a sacrifice fly, scoring Three Hillier (Liberty University), after Hillier was walked earlier in the inning. Finally, Nick Mueller (Texas A&M University – Corpus Christi) would obtain the last RBI in the inning, hitting a single to score Dominic Magliocca (Freshman, Miami University), who was also walked earlier in the inning. All the first inning action gave the Ice Haulers a 7-0 lead.

In the bottom of the third, Bryce Richey would tally up another RBI hit for Sandusky Bay. He would give the Ice Haulers an 8-0 lead, as he drove in Dominic Magliocca.

During the bottom of the fourth, Dominic Magliocca joined the RBI parade, as he obtained a double, to score Nolan O’Connell and Braden Durham. The two-run double gave the Ice Haulers a 10-0 lead.

The last RBI came from the dangerous, Scott Mackiewicz (Freshman, University of Toledo). His RBI line drive to center scored Bryce Richey.

On the mound, Landon Smiddy went all seven innings, as the Ice Haulers run-ruled the Mariners, with a score of 11-0. Smiddy only allowed one hit with no walks. He also tallied up six strikeouts, and only threw 70 pitches to obtain the complete game.

The Ice Haulers are inching closer to clinching a playoff spot. They will be back in action tomorrow to take on the Galion Graders, in Sandusky. The game will start at 7:00pm.
