Coming off a tough loss to the Galion Graders in the season finale, the Ice Haulers took on the well-contested Lima Locos, for the first round of the North Division Semi-finals. The ace pitcher, Landon Smiddy (Sophomore, East Tennessee State University) took the mound for Sandusky Bay in tonight’s game.

The Ice Haulers struck first, as Drew Holderbach (Senior, Marietta College) grounded into a double play to drive in Zachary Campbell (Senior, Tiffin University).  The Ice Haulers led 1-0 after the first inning.

The Locos would get a run back in the second inning to tie the game. Then, they would hit a solo shot in the third inning to make it a 2-1 game, in favor of the Locos.

Drew Holderbach would have an RBI single in the third inning, to tie the game up at two runs apiece. Then, in the bottom of the fourth inning, Sandusky Bay would score two runs. The Locos would make two costly errors to give up a run, and Zachary Campbell would have an RBI groundout to score Dominic Magliocca (Freshman, Miami University). The Ice Haulers led 4-2 after the fourth inning.

Sandusky Bay would drive in three runs in the fifth inning. Three Hillier (Freshman, Liberty University) would have his first three RBIs of the game with just one swing. His three-run bomb to right field made it a score of 7-2, in favor of the Ice Haulers.

Hillier would have a three-RBI double, as he would finish the game with six RBIs. Hillier was a triple away from the cycle. “It felt great seeing that ball fly over the fence. This win was huge for us. The cycle would have been nice, just got to get a little faster,” Hillier said.

Landon Smiddy would go six innings, striking out seven Locos, allowing two earned runs. Wesley Arrington (Freshman, Lynchburg College) would go the last three innings, fighting his way to a well earned save. The Ice Haulers won the first game of the series, with a score of 11-5. "We have the momentum, and we are going to keep it," Ray Neill (General Manager - Sandusky Bay Ice Haulers) said.

The Ice Haulers will travel to Lima tomorrow for game two of the series. The game will start at 7:05pm.
