The Sandusky Bay Ice Haulers were back in action tonight at Sports Force Parks to face off against the Southern Ohio Copperheads. Continuing on their five game winning streak, the Ice Haulers won against the Copperheads with a final score of 14-6.
Starting on the mound for the Ice Haulers tonight was Ben Palomo, a right-handed pitcher from West Virginia Tech. Palomo pitched for one inning and allowed only two hits in action. Will Rouse, left handed sophomore at Malone University, stepped into pitch for the Haulers in the second inning to give relief for Palomo. Ben Keller was the third pitcher of the game and he allowed three back to back outs in the fifth inning. RJ Shunck was the night’s winning pitcher, he was the player on the mound when the Haulers took the lead over the Copperheads. First baseman, Eli Snider, had a to the ground catch then tagged up on first base to get a double play. There was another stellar play by shortstop, JT Popick, who had a helpful bunt in the bottom of the second inning, setting up two runs for the Ice Haulers. The Haulers rallied at the bottom of the sixth inning, bringing in seven runs, giving the Haulers a 12-6 lead. The lineup ran all the way through and then some, Popick and Fiehrer batted twice in the inning. The Sandusky Bay Ice Haulers and the Southern Ohio Copperheads will be back in action tomorrow night, June 18th, on Field #3 at 7:00 p.m.

The Sandusky Bay Ice Haulers and the Lima Locos were back in action tonight on Field #3 at Sports Force Parks. Both teams were geared up and ready to battle for the final game of the series. The Locos have two wins under the belt over the Haulers, both only by one run. Starting on the mound for the Ice Haulers was number 4 Seth Sleasman and starting the Locos off was number 24, Hudson Parker. The Haulers scored their first run in the bottom of the first, giving them the lead. The weather was warmer tonight thanks to the lack of wind, allowing for the fly balls to be directed by the bat only. In the bottom of the third inning, number 32 Eli Snider hit a double that allowed for Rhett Stokes to score another run. Brandon Doehne stepped in to pitch for the Locos in the top of the fourth inning. An out of the park homerun was hit by Lima Loco number 29, Landon Underhill. That hit bumped the Locos up one run, making the count 2-1 with the Haulers holding the lead. That was until another run was made by the Locos in that same inning to tie the game. In the bottom of the fifth inning number 20 grounded out to right field and took first base, allowing for number 10, DJ Newman to tie the game. RJ Shunck got the Haulers out of a tight situation in the top of the sixth, with a runner on third he pitched through to hold him. The Ice Haulers finished the game strong, holding the Locos at a standstill up until the 9th inning. Cooper Fiehrer took the mound in the top of the ninth to battle it out. The game went into extra innings, as the game remained tied. The Ice Haulers will be back in action on June 9th to face off against JetBox in Highland Michigan at 5:30. The Ice Haulers faced the Lima Locos again tonight, both teams were in all blue making it an all blue game on Field #3.
Starting on the mound for the Haulers was number 24 Thomas Simon, a sophomore from Westminster College. Starting on the mound for the Locos was number 27 Landon Price, a sophomore from The Ohio State University. Both pitchers started the game with a quick inning, allowing four ground balls to the infield then thrown to first for the out. Austin Adelman was the catcher for The Haulers tonight and when asked about the game he said, “The game went well, pitchers made my life pretty easy back there!” The second inning started off with one run by the Lima Locos and was followed by a strong at bat by the Haulers, tying the game in the bottom of the second. Ethan Mohr, number 22, stepped in for the home team starting in the third inning. No runs were scored during his time on the mound, but some bases were taken. Both teams remained tied at 1-1 all the way through the eighth inning. Kaden Arn, number 10 from Bowling Green State University, stepped in to pitch for the Locos for the sixth inning. The Haulers hit off Arn to right field and second base, getting runners on the bases. Both teams battled through the game, neither letting another run to cross the plate until the 8th inning when the Locos scored one, changing the score to 1-2. Connor Ostrander played third base and when asked about the game he said, “I had fun, it was exciting to be back out there on the field. I had a chance to make plays and do what I do out there.” The Ice Haulers and the Lima Locos will face one another for the final game in the series tomorrow night at 7 o’clock. The Sandusky Bay Ice Haulers started off their season with a 2-3 game against the Lima Locos. With the first game of the game series and the first game of the season, the Haulers were amped up and ready to play. The team started the game off with a strong two to zero lead against the Locos, and held the Locos back so they would only score one more run in the eighth inning. Starting on the mound for the Haulers was number 26 Perry Miller, a sophomore from Bowling Green State University. The Ice Haulers had strong rounds at the plate, hitting nearly all to center or right field off of the opposing pitcher, Peyton Nelson of the Lima Locos.
The Haulers wore their powder blue uniforms in confidence as they took the field, they did not allow for the lake effect wind and cool air to impact their playing. Ben Keller, a sophomore from Bryant and Stratton College, picked up the pitching halfway through the game, following freshman RJ Shunck from The University of Toledo. When Ben was asked how the game went for the team he said, “It felt good and I know we had fun. We are still learning, but we are excited for the opportunities.” Third baseman for the Ice Haulers, Hudson Davenport, had played the entirety of the game and said, “We battled hard, especially in the ninth inning. But, we just have to come back tomorrow and play like we know how to.” Davenport is a sophomore from Eastern Michigan University where he plays on the baseball team with a couple other 2023 Ice Hauler players. A familiar face, Eli Snider, returned to the field as the designated hitter for the home team. Snider walked up to the plate four times and hit off of the opposing pitcher, some being caught by the center fielder or second baseman from the Locos, but got on base to advance to second. The Haulers will be back in action for the rest of the home series against the Locos June 7th and 8th on Field 3 at Sports Force Parks, first pitch to be thrown at 7 o’clock. After competing in a split series from July fourteenth and fifteenth, the Sandusky Bay Ice Haulers rallied to complete a 2-0 home series win against the Settlers.
. Game One resulted in a 7-5 win in favor of the Bay. Earning the start on the mound for game one was Gage Gillott who pitched for five innings. Gillott, a right-handed pitcher from USC Upstate, struggled in the beginning few innings, walking six batters, but was able to regain confidence to earn the win on the mound for the Bay. Gillott finished with four hits, five runs, and seven strikeouts. . Some more key highlights from game one include Jacob Armsey going three for four at the plate and recording his fifth stolen base. Nathan Archer and Brady Renfro also went two for four at the plate. The Ice Haulers also recorded six RBI’s with two of them coming from Nathan Archer. . Leading the series 1-0, the Ice Haulers rallied to take game two as well. Game two resulted in a 6-1 win and four RBI’s were credited to Mason Montgomery. Sandusky Bay took the 4-0 lead in the second inning due to Montgomery’s Grand Slam that brought in Nathan Archer and Andrew Horvath who were both on base due to being hit by a pitch. Montgomery also batted in Mikey Pollard who got on base from a six-pitch walk. . Sandusky Bay brought in their fifth runner in the third inning from some Nathan Archer base running. Archer advanced to first from a dropped third pitch and stole all around the bases during Andrew Horvath and Eli Snider’s at-bats. Archer completed the “home run” base running to close out the inning. Archer now sits at twenty-five stolen bases on the season. . Eli Snider, a Sophomore from Seton Hill University, tallied an RBI in the eighth inning with his double to center field bringing in Archer for another insurance run pushing the lead to 6-1. . Alexei Goldhill earned the start on the mound for game two. Goldhill, a right-handed pitcher from Oakland University, went on to pick up the win for the Bay tallying six hits, one run, and three strikeouts in eight innings pitched. Goldhill also pitches in the Back Bay Prospect League for the Chausse Cattails. Alec Mendoza, right-handed pitcher and Senior from Notre Dame College of Ohio, came in to pitch relief in the ninth to close out the game. Mendoza finished the game off with a walk and single strikeout facing only four batters. . Key highlights for the game two match-up with the Licking County Settlers for game two include Josh Kross going two for four at the plate. Sandusky Bay was also walked four times in the game and Nathan Archer tallied three stolen bases. Finally, Mason Montgomery took over in the second inning with his grand slam. . The Sandusky Bay Ice Haulers will be off tomorrow (Thursday July 21), but will resume play with a doubleheader on Friday July 22 against the Southern Ohio Copperheads. . The Ice Haulers trailed 0-3 after the first inning, giving Francisco Olivarez the loss on the mound for the Bay. K. Ratliff got things started and rallied with two outs in the first by hitting a homerun to left field. Olivarez then walked the next two batters to put the Copperheads in scoring position. M. Stallings then doubled to left field after both J. Steidl and M. Nadolney stole due to a wild pitch. Steidl and Nadolney then advanced home to give M. Stallings to RBI’s. . Sandusky Bay came alive in the second inning to try to even the score, but fell short by only cutting the deficit to one. Jace Rinehart and Eli Snider hit back-to-back homeruns off the Copperheads pitcher, M. Gilkey. Mason Montogmery tried to go for three in a row, but was still able to advance to first from a single to the shortstop that slipped under his glove. Montgomery later was caught stealing for the first time this season and Michael Pollard was put out at short for the three outs of the inning. . The Copperheads answered quickly in the third advancing two more runs home off three hits. Francisco Olivarez only pitched through this inning and finished recording five hits, five runs, three walked batters, and two strikeouts. . The Ice Haulers tried to come back in the fourth inning, recording two more runs from an RBI triple and a sacrifice fly, but it was not enough. Mason Montgomery tripled to right field to advance Eli Snider home. Mikey Pollard then hit a sacrifice fly to right field for Montgomery to advance home. Sandusky Bay was able to put up one run in the seventh, three runs in the eight, and one run in the ninth, but the Copperheads were able to outswing and outrun the Haulers for the win. . Cooper Donlin, Brady Renfro, Ty Munroe, and Bobby Perebzak all came in to pitch relief for the Ice Haulers. Donlin tallied four hits, two runs, and two walked batters in his two innings pitched. Brady Renfro and Ty Munroe both tallied a single strikeout in their single innings pitched. Finally, Bobby Perebzak recorded two strikeouts, two hits, and one run to finish off the game. . Game one of the series, the Ice Haulers took an early 3-1 lead in the first inning. Garett Pike advanced to first on a single and was then able to steal second during Jace Rinehart’s at-bat. Rinehart then doubled to center field to advance Pike home for one run. Rinehart was also able to score during Nathan Archer’s at-bat due to a wild-pitch and a catcher’s error. Archer went on to advance to first and steal second. Archer was the final Ice Hauler to advance home in this inning from a Mason Montgomery single to center field. . Kross went on to steal second during Andrew Horvath’s at-bat which also landed him on base. Kross went on to steal third and home as well due to some wild pitching from the Monarchs K. Ballard. This started the scoring for Sandusky Bay. . Sandusky Bay continued their scoring in the third inning as well. Nathan Archer doubled on the third pitch shown and advanced to third base during Garett Pike’s at-bat, where he was put-out at first. Archer scored on a wild pitch during Josh Kross’s at-bat, and Kross also hit a solo homerun to right field to extend the lead to 3-0. Brady Renfro finished up the scoring for the Ice Haulers in the sixth inning due to some infield errors on the Monarchs as well as having two walked batters (Snider & Renfro). . Goldhill threw for five innings and recorded two walked batters, four hits, and zero runs. After his reign on the mound the score line stood at 3-0. . Trouble struck in the eighth and ninth innings for Sandusky Bay. Some pitching changes came and went for the Bay bringing in Owen Kovacs, Cooper Donlin, and Tyler Munroe. Owen Kovacs pitched for two innings and recorded two hits, no runs, and three strikeouts. Cooper Donlin tallied three hits, three runs, and one walked batter in his single inning pitched. Finally, Tyler Munroe came in for relief in the ninth where the Monarchs walked-off with a win. Munroe tallied three hits and two runs to pick up the loss on the mound. . Game three did not end any differently for the Bay. The Monarchs led in the first inning due to a C. Coleman single which advanced home T. Nelson for a 1-0 lead. The Monarchs continued to score in the sixth and ninth innings. The sixth inning they scored one run and in the ninth inning they scored three to put a stamp on the series. The Ice Haulers sole run came from Josh Kross in the sixth inning. Kross was walked to first and stole second to get into scoring position. Eli Snider then doubled to center field which recorded an RBI for him and a run for the Ice Haulers, advancing home Kross. Final score for game three read as a 1-7 loss for the Bay. The Ice Haulers will feature seven active players and two alternates in the North and South Division GLSCL All-Star Game on Tuesday July 12th. These nine players include Nathan Archer, Jacob Armsey, Jacob Boyd, Owen Kovacs, Josh Kross, Casey Maniglia, Garett Pike, Jace Rinehart and Ty Stolarski. Archer will be starting at center field, Kross will start as the catcher, Pike will start at right field, and Boyd will start as the pitcher for the North Division Team. . The Sandusky Bay Ice Haulers will not return to play until Thursday July 14th. Sandusky Bay will travel to Denison University in Granville, Ohio for interdivision play against the South Division’s first place team, the Licking County Settlers. The Settlers sit at nineteen wins and two losses while Sandusky Bay sits at fourteen wins and sixteen losses. The Sandusky Bay Ice Haulers fell in game one of the series against the Michigan Monarchs, 6-8. The Ice Haulers now sit at fourteen wins and fourteen losses. The Bay is continuing their strides for the playoffs, but also have seven players participating in the All-Star Game.

Mendoza pitched for three innings and recorded eight hits, six runs, and one strikeout. Coming in to pitch relief for the Bay was Orlando Loyed and Bobby Perebzak. Lloyd, right-handed pitcher from Terra State CC, pitched for three innings and tallied two hits, one run, and two strikeouts. Perebzak closed out the game pitching for two innings and tallying two hits, one run, and four strikeouts. Three of Perebzak’s strikeouts all came in the eighth inning. . The Monarch lead began in the second inning. S. Gergely came out strong for the Monarchs with a single to center field. Up to bat next for the Monarchs was C. Coleman tripled to right field and advanced Gergely home. H. Brown advanced Coleman home by a putout from shortstop to first. The Monarch lead lasted the entire game. . The Ice Haulers tried to rally in the seventh inning stretch, finally finding a sweet spot in the barrels of their bats. Garett Pike, Josh Kross, and Jace Rinehart all advanced on base to get into scoring position. Pike advanced home along with Kross bringing the score within three runs. The Ice Haulers had no answer for the Leprechauns in the second inning as well with another run advancing home and extending the lead to 2-0. Sandusky Bay tried to rally in the third inning from Jake Armsey’s single to right field, bringing Alec Mendoza home to trail by one run. R. Trahey and D. Henig put their mark on the game for the Leprechauns in the eight inning bringing in two more runs to finish the game with a 4-1 scoreline. .
