The Sandusky Bay Ice Haulers dropped game one against the Southern Ohio Copperheads, 9-12. The Copperheads are in last place in the South Division and this loss has now dropped the Bay to fourth overall in the North Division.
.
The Ice Haulers trailed 0-3 after the first inning, giving Francisco Olivarez the loss on the mound for the Bay. K. Ratliff got things started and rallied with two outs in the first by hitting a homerun to left field. Olivarez then walked the next two batters to put the Copperheads in scoring position. M. Stallings then doubled to left field after both J. Steidl and M. Nadolney stole due to a wild pitch. Steidl and Nadolney then advanced home to give M. Stallings to RBI’s.
.
Sandusky Bay came alive in the second inning to try to even the score, but fell short by only cutting the deficit to one. Jace Rinehart and Eli Snider hit back-to-back homeruns off the Copperheads pitcher, M. Gilkey. Mason Montogmery tried to go for three in a row, but was still able to advance to first from a single to the shortstop that slipped under his glove. Montgomery later was caught stealing for the first time this season and Michael Pollard was put out at short for the three outs of the inning.
.
The Copperheads answered quickly in the third advancing two more runs home off three hits. Francisco Olivarez only pitched through this inning and finished recording five hits, five runs, three walked batters, and two strikeouts.
.
The Ice Haulers tried to come back in the fourth inning, recording two more runs from an RBI triple and a sacrifice fly, but it was not enough. Mason Montgomery tripled to right field to advance Eli Snider home. Mikey Pollard then hit a sacrifice fly to right field for Montgomery to advance home. Sandusky Bay was able to put up one run in the seventh, three runs in the eight, and one run in the ninth, but the Copperheads were able to outswing and outrun the Haulers for the win.
.
Cooper Donlin, Brady Renfro, Ty Munroe, and Bobby Perebzak all came in to pitch relief for the Ice Haulers. Donlin tallied four hits, two runs, and two walked batters in his two innings pitched. Brady Renfro and Ty Munroe both tallied a single strikeout in their single innings pitched. Finally, Bobby Perebzak recorded two strikeouts, two hits, and one run to finish off the game.
.
Sandusky Bay now drops to fifteen wins and eighteen losses. They will be back in action tonight at 7:05PM to play the Licking County Settlers at Sandusky Sports Force Parks on Field 3.
