Sandusky Bay falls short of a Rally against the Monarchs

The Sandusky Bay Ice Haulers fell in game one of the series against the Michigan Monarchs, 6-8. The Ice Haulers now sit at fourteen wins and fourteen losses. The Bay is continuing their strides for the playoffs, but also have seven players participating in the All-Star Game.

Starting on the mound for the Ice Haulers was Alec Mendoza, right-handed pitcher from Notre Dame College of Ohio. Mendoza pitched for three innings and recorded eight hits, six runs, and one strikeout. Coming in to pitch relief for the Bay was Orlando Loyed and Bobby Perebzak. Lloyd, right-handed pitcher from Terra State CC, pitched for three innings and tallied two hits, one run, and two strikeouts. Perebzak closed out the game pitching for two innings and tallying two hits, one run, and four strikeouts. Three of Perebzak’s strikeouts all came in the eighth inning.

The Monarch lead began in the second inning. S. Gergely came out strong for the Monarchs with a single to center field. Up to bat next for the Monarchs was C. Coleman tripled to right field and advanced Gergely home. H. Brown advanced Coleman home by a putout from shortstop to first. The Monarch lead lasted the entire game.

The Ice Haulers tried to rally in the seventh inning stretch, finally finding a sweet spot in the barrels of their bats. Garett Pike, Josh Kross, and Jace Rinehart all advanced on base to get into scoring position. Pike advanced home along with Kross bringing the score within three runs. Jake Armsey later advanced home to bring the scoreline to 5-7.

Key highlights from the match-up include the at bats for the Ice Haulers. Jake Armsey went three for four at the plate and Garett Pike went three for five. Nathan Archer, Josh Kross, and Brady Renfro all recorded one RBI and Jace Rinehart recorded two.

The Ice Haulers will be back in action tonight at Sandusky Sports Force Parks for Game two of the series with the Michigan Monarchs. First Pitch is set for 7:05 PM and will be played on field 3.
