The Ice Haulers tried to get another winning streak going, as Nick Saranczak (Senior, West Virginia State University) took the mound for Sandusky Bay. Sandusky Bay currently leads the North Division, hoping to clinch a playoff spot in the next few games.
Coming into this game, the Ice Haulers have struggled seeing the ball at the plate, and it continued to show tonight. Sandusky had five hits, and the other four baserunners were walked. Scott Mackiewicz (Freshman, University of Toledo) had two out of the five hits for the Haulers. The Ice Haulers left a total of 12 baserunners stranded, as they could not drive in any runs against Jet Box. The Ice Haulers were shutout for the third time this season, by a score of 2-0.
Despite the rough performance for the batters, the pitching seemed to work well for Sandusky. Nick Saranczak went three strong innings, striking out five Jet Box batters, allowing no runs. Cal Johnston (Sophomore, Lansing Community College) went three innings, allowing one earned run, with three strikeouts. Finally, one of the Ice Hauler catchers, Three Hillier (Freshman, Liberty University) took the mound for the second time this season, pitching the last two innings. The Ice Hauler catcher only allowed just one hit, a walk, and one earned run.
The Ice Haulers will be back in Sandusky tomorrow, to take on the Grand Lake Mariners. The first pitch will begin at 7:05pm.
