After their last game was halted, and suspended in Lima, the Ice Haulers were still looking for that final victory to get them to the postseason. The Ice Haulers traveled to Celina for the last time, to take on the Grand Lake Mariners. On the mound, it was Luke Lushutka's (Freshman, St. Bonaventure University) turn in the rotation.
In the top of the first, Mark Connelly (Sophomore, Lansing Community College) hit a three-run blast to give the Ice Haulers the start they needed. However, Grand Lake would also tally up three runs in the first inning, and the game was tied heading into the second.
Grand Lake had a great response, but that did not stop the Ice Haulers for staying hot at the plate. The Ice Haulers would score four more runs in the second inning, making it a 7-3 lead for Sandusky Bay. The first RBI came from the centerfielder, Nick Mueller (Freshman, Texas A&M University - Corpus Christi). He hit a sacrifice fly to score Dominic Magliocca (Freshman, Miami University). The next run came from an RBI fielder's choice, hit by Scott Mackiewicz (Freshman, University of Toledo). His RBI would bring in Jordan Andrade (Freshman, University of Nevada Las Vegas), who had a single earlier in the inning. The last two runs would come from an error by the Grand Lake infielders, which scored Zachary Campbell (Senior, Tiffin University) and Scott Mackiewicz.
Bryce Richey (Junior Tiffin University) would extend the Ice Hauler lead with a sacrifice fly, to give Jordan Andrade another run. Andrade had another single in that inning also. The sacrifice fly gave the Haulers an 8-3 lead.
Heading into the seventh inning, the Ice Haulers were hungry for more runs, as they scored two more. The catcher, Three Hillier (Freshman, Liberty University) hit an RBI single to score Mark Connelly. Later in the inning, Three Hillier would advance to second and third. Both advancements came from wild pitches. This would allow Tucker McEnroe (Freshman, Texas A&M University - Corpus Christi) to hit a sacrifice fly, to bring in Hillier.
With the Ice Haulers leading 10-3, the Mariners struck back with a solo shot. The homerun made it a 10-4 game, in favor of Sandusky.
The Ice Haulers would answer back with a solo homerun, hit by Nick Mueller. This extended the lead to a score of 11-4, in favor for the Ice Haulers. Mueller now has eight homeruns on the season and is now tied for second in the league. He is one of the individuals in the league chasing Scott Mackiewicz for most homers on the year.
Tucker McEnroe would have another RBI in the ninth inning, as he hit an RBI triple to score Mark Connelly.
The Ice Haulers would clinch a spot in the playoffs, after a 12-4 victory over the Grand Lake Mariners. Luke Lushutka got his second winning decision of the season. He went five total innings, striking out seven Mariners, and only allowed three earned runs. More notable stats to mention, Zachary Campbell and Mark Connelly both went 3-5 at the plate tonight.
The next goal for Sandusky Bay is to clinch home field advantage, as they currently lead the North by four games over the Lima Locos. The Ice Haulers will resume their halted game with Lima on Monday. The scheduled game against the Locos will begin afterwards. The halted game will start at 5:00pm.
