Landon Smiddy (Sophomore, East Tennessee State University) looked to lead Sandusky to their 15th straight home victory. Before tonight’s home game, the Ice Haulers magic number to clinch the playoffs was at five. The Ice Haulers took on the Grand Lake Mariners, hoping to shrink that number.

In recent past games, the Ice Haulers had trouble seeing the ball, but today that was not an issue. In the first inning, the Ice Haulers scored seven runs. First, Bryce Richey (Junior, Tiffin University) hit a line drive single to centerfield. The Mariner centerfielder would have trouble handling the ball, scoring Zachary Campbell (Senior, Tiffin University) from the error. Mark Connelly (Sophomore, Lansing Community College) would follow up with a triple, scoring Richey. Nolan O’Connell (Sophomore, University of Findlay) would hit an RBI single, scoring Connelly. Braden Durham (Sophomore, Seton Hill University) would obtain a sacrifice fly, scoring Three Hillier (Liberty University), after Hillier was walked earlier in the inning. Finally, Nick Mueller (Texas A&M University – Corpus Christi) would obtain the last RBI in the inning, hitting a single to score Dominic Magliocca (Freshman, Miami University), who was also walked earlier in the inning. All the first inning action gave the Ice Haulers a 7-0 lead.

In the bottom of the third, Bryce Richey would tally up another RBI hit for Sandusky Bay. He would give the Ice Haulers an 8-0 lead, as he drove in Dominic Magliocca.

During the bottom of the fourth, Dominic Magliocca joined the RBI parade, as he obtained a double, to score Nolan O’Connell and Braden Durham. The two-run double gave the Ice Haulers a 10-0 lead.

The last RBI came from the dangerous, Scott Mackiewicz (Freshman, University of Toledo). His RBI line drive to center scored Bryce Richey.

On the mound, Landon Smiddy went all seven innings, as the Ice Haulers run-ruled the Mariners, with a score of 11-0. Smiddy only allowed one hit with no walks. He also tallied up six strikeouts, and only threw 70 pitches to obtain the complete game.

The Ice Haulers are inching closer to clinching a playoff spot. They will be back in action tomorrow to take on the Galion Graders, in Sandusky. The game will start at 7:00pm.
