The Ice Haulers were looking to get back on track. Previously, they had lost 2 of their last 3 games, after going on a 14-game winning streak. Brandon Bergert (Sophomore, Seton Hill University) took the mound for Sandusky Bay, to take on the Galion Graders.
Sandusky drew first blood, scoring two runs in the second inning. Nolan O’Connell (Sophomore, University of Findlay) would obtain the first RBI for the Ice Haulers. He grounded out to the middle infield, to score the Ice Hauler catcher, Three Hillier (Freshman, Liberty University). The next run would come off an error by the Graders, which would give Bryce Richey (Junior, Tiffin University) a run.
In the next inning, the Ice Haulers would drive in 6 more runs. Leading 2-0, the Ice Haulers would bat around. Nick Mueller (Freshman, Texas A&M – Corpus Christi). would have two hits in the inning, including a double, 2 RBIs, and a run. Additionally, Bryce Richey would have a 2-RBI single, and Dominic Magliocca (Freshman, Miami University) would have an RBI, from a bases loaded walk.
In the next inning, Scott Mackiewicz (Freshman, University of Toledo) would hit a 2-run blast to deep right field, giving the Ice Haulers a 10-0 lead.
After five innings pitched, Brandon Bergert allowed 5 hits, 4 earned runs, 4 walks, and 5 strikeouts.
In the fifth inning, the Ice Haulers would lead 10-3, after the Graders scored 3 runs in the last inning. Zachary Campbell (Senior, Tiffin University) would hit an infield single, driving in Nolan O’Connell. However, a costly error from the Graders would allow another run to score. This would give the Ice Haulers a 12-3 lead over the Graders. Then, the big hitter, Mark Connelly (Sophomore, Lansing Community College) would drive in 2 more runs, with a double. This would extend Sandusky Bay’s lead to a 14-3 score.
The Graders would get another run back in the bottom of the fifth inning. However, Sandusky would respond in the top of the sixth. Nick Mueller would obtain another RBI, hitting a single to drive in Bryce Richey. Mueller went 3-4 on the night, with 3 RBIs.
The Ice Haulers would run rule the Graders, with a score of 15-5. The road trip continues, as tomorrow they will take on the Lima Locos.
