As the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League finished up their first week of the season, the Ice Haulers are proud to announce that the second baseman, Scott Mackiewicz (Freshman, University of Toledo) received the first Player of the Week Honorable Mention. Mackiewicz would finish just behind one batter (Noah Marcoux, Muskegon Clippers) for the Player of the Week award.
During his first week of the season, Mackiewicz hit .417 (8-for-17), with one home run, 10 RBIs, and 7 runs scored.
“I’m happy for the recognition. Most importantly, I am thankful for the team. I cannot wait to see where the season takes us. We all are improving as players, by building a good chemistry. From here, the team and I just want to keep winning games,” Mackiewicz said.
Mackiewicz’s biggest moment last week came on June 11th, when the Ice Haulers traveled to Lima to take on the Lima Locos. The Toledo Rocket would hit his one home run for the week, which happened to be a grand slam. Mackiewicz would tally up 5 RBIs, a stolen base, and two runs for the Ice Haulers, leading them to a 16-7 victory.
The Ice Hauler second baseman looks to continue staying hot at the plate and showing consistency as the season progresses.
