This evening the Sandusky Bay Ice Haulers took on the Michigan Monarchs in a double-header on their home field at Sports Force Parks. With a bit of rain coming in from the lake and the temperature dropping just a little bit, the players were in their powder blue uniforms and ready to take the field. Braden Shepherd started on the mound for the Haulers. Shepherd was eager to get back on the mound after playing the last few games in center field, “I felt very strong out there. I was forcing weak contact and missing barrels for the most part, even though some of it did not go my way. It was good to get out there and have a solid outing to finish off the summer.” He capped his speed at a steady 92 mph, and allowed for only two runs up until the top of the seventh inning, when Parker Newby came in for relief. The Ice Haulers rallied in the bottom of the sixth inning, starting off with Eli Snider hitting a ground rule double in the bottom of the sixth inning, allowing Ostrander who was sitting on third to make the first run of the game for the Haulers. Luke Walton stepped up to the plate and ripped a line drive to left field, allowing Seidel and Snider to make their way to home plate. Hudson Davenport hit a single that sent Walton to third and Rhett Stokes followed up with a double, and Luke Walton was able to steal home. The runs continued when J.T. Popick hit a ground ball to far left field, which allowed for Davenport and Stokes to score as well. The Ice Haulers went through the entire lineup in the bottom of the sixth, with only one out. The Ice Haulers had a ten run inning, giving them the win against the Monarchs for the first game of the night. The second game began with an out of the park home run by Ice Hauler, Luke Walton. Each inning was a quick three outs, with Cooper Fiehrer on the mound for the Ice Haulers. The second game was much closer than the first. With a 10-2 final in the first game and the second with a 4-2 final, both wins were taken by the Ice Haulers. The Sandusky Bay Ice Haulers will be back in action tomorrow night, Monday the 24th, for the final home game of the season. The Haulers will face off against the Monarchs once again, with the first pitch to be thrown at 7:00 p.m.
