After an 0-5 start to the season, the Ice Haulers gained their first win of the season and team history, over the Grand Lake Mariners.

On the mound, Landon Smitty (Sophomore, East Tennessee State University) had six shutout innings of work, allowing just one hit, with seven strikeouts for the night. “It’s always great to be a part of history. I am honored to be a part of this moment, and happy for the team” said Smitty. In the seventh inning, Brandon Bergert (Freshman, Seton Hill) relieved Smitty, striking out three batters for the last’s outs. The two pitchers would only allow two combined hits, with ten total strikeouts.

The bats also came alive today for the Ice Haulers, as Mark Connelly (Sophomore, Lansing Community College) had three of the eight hits for the Ice Haulers. “It’s always a lot of fun getting a win. That’s what this is about, having fun and winning,” said Connelly. Connelly also had four RBIs on the night. Jackson Green (Freshman, East Tennessee State University) increased his hitting streak to six games, and Scott Mackiewicz (Freshman, University of Toledo) had another multi-hit game for the Ice Haulers, with two RBIs.

Lastly, Jordan Andrade (Freshman, University of Nevada Las Vegas) had an impressive showing at third base, getting multiple tough outs.

The Ice Haulers would win 13-0 in seven innings, due to a run-rule. The squad will be back in action tomorrow, June 10th at 7:05pm, as they take on the Gallion Graders at Sports Force Parks at Cedar Point Sports Center.
