The Ice Haulers were looking to bounce back after a tough loss to the Jet Box Baseball Club. They would take on the Lima Locos for the third time this season. Brandon Bergert (Sophomore, Seton Hill University) took the mound tonight, hoping to get his first win decision of the season.

The Ice Haulers struck first blood, as the first baseman, Tyler Byrd (Freshman, Texas A U Corpus Christi) hit a sacrifice fly in the second inning, leading the left fielder, Drew Holderbach (Senior, Marietta College) to score. This would make it a 1-0 game in the Ice Haulers favor.

Holderbach continued to stay hot at the plate this week, as he would add on to the lead in the bottom of the third inning. He would tally up two RBIs with a single, leading the designated hitter, Three Hillier (Freshman, Liberty University) and Scott Mackiewicz (Freshman, University of Toledo) to score. This would make it a 3-0 game, in favor of the Ice Haulers. Hillier and Mackiewicz would run a double steal, before Holderbach’s RBI hit.

Looking back to the pitcher, Brandon Bergert would go through four solid innings on the mound tonight. Bergert only allowed three hits with no runs. He would also strike out four Locos, allowing just two walks.

After Bergert’s solid start to the game, Luke Lashutka (Freshman, St. Bonaventure University) would continue the pitching success tonight for the Ice Haulers. Lushutka would go through three innings, allowing just two hits, and a walk.

During Lashutka’s successful relief pitching performance, the Ice Haulers struck again in the bottom of the seventh. The big hitter, Scott Mackiewicz would add two more insurance runs with an RBI single. This gave the right fielder, Chris LoCurto (Freshamn, East Tennessee State University) a run, as well as the third baseman, Tucker McEnroe (Freshman, Texas A U Corpus Christi). The Ice Haulers would then lead 5-0.

In the end, the Ice Haulers responded well after a tough loss, as they would get the win. The final score tonight in Sandusky ended 7-2. This would be the Ice Haulers second win of the season against the Lima Locos. Brandon Bergert would obtain the winning decision. “There is a difference between losing a game and going on a losing streak. Tonight, we had a great comeback win after a tough loss,” General Manager Ray Neil said.

The Ice Haulers will be back at Sports Force Parks tomorrow, as they hope to get their second win against the Grand Lake Mariners.
