After coming off a big win over the Lima Locos, the Ice Haulers looked to begin another winning streak. The Ice Haulers traveled to Celina to take on the Grand Lake Mariners. Andino Vecchiolla (Freshman, Seton Hill University) took the mound for Sandusky Bay.
Vecchiolla had an impressive start to the game, allowing just one earned run until the fifth inning. However, in that fifth inning he gave up a three-run blast, giving the Mariners a 3-0 lead. Vecchiolla would finish with five innings pitched, three earned runs, and eight strikeouts.
The Mariners would strike with one more run in the seventh inning, making it a 4-0 lead for the Mariners.
The Grand Lake Mariners would hand the Ice Haulers their eighth loss of the season, with a final score of 4-0. The Ice Haulers were not able to find an answer over the Mariner starting pitcher, Kade Benavidez. They would only get two hits off the ace pitcher, ending the game with six hits total. The Mariners are the first team to shutout Sandusky this season.
The Ice Haulers will look to get back on track, as they will continue their road trip to Galion, to take on the Graders. With only eleven regular season games left of the season, the Ice Haulers currently stand on top of the North division. They lead five games ahead over the Royal Oak Leprechauns. Sandusky Bay will hope to clinch the playoff spot, as the season continues to come close to an end.
