Sandusky Bay drops in a Walk-Off Fashion

The Sandusky Bay Ice Haulers traveled to Michigan to compete with Jet Box Baseball Club and dropped game one of the series 6-7 Tuesday night. The Ice Haulers had an early lead in the first inning on a Josh Kross sacrifice fly to advance Garett Pike and Brady Renfro home for a 2-0 lead. Mason Montgomery, second baseman for the day, hit a two run homerun to right field to also bring Jace Rinehart home.
.
The lead lasted until the ninth inning with some questionable calls and bulking charges against the Ice Hauler pitchers. Jet Box was able to rally the score within one in the bottom of the eighth inning from M. Tchavdarov’s double to left field which advanced J, Lauinger, and I. Cleary home for his first RBI of the day.
.
Francisco Olivarez earned the start on the mound for the Ice Haulers. Olivarez pitched for 7.1 innings and had six strikeouts, five hits, and four runs. Jet Box only tallied six hits and one error in the evening.
.
Ty Munroe and Jacob Boyd came in to pitch for relief and to close the game out for the Ice Haulers. After a coaching decision to load the bases by allowing J. Lauinger to walk, Sandusky Bay was looking for a double play forceout to close out the game. Unfortunately, for the Bay, they were unable to do so due to M. Tchavdarov’s single bringing in D. Vandoorne for the win.
.
The Ice Haulers will be back in action tonight for game two of the three game series against Jet Box. First pitch is set for 7:05 PM at Milford High School in Highland, Michigan. The Ice Haulers now sit at eleven wins and eight losses, and second place overall to Jet Box Baseball Club. Josh Kros still sits at second overall with a .375 batting average thus far on the season.
