Sandusky Bay swept in Monarch Series

The Sandusky Bay Ice Haulers dropped games two and three against the Michigan Monarchs with final scores of 4-5 and . Sandusky Bay hosted Game two and three of the series and were on the road at Siena Heights University in Highland, Michigan for game one. The swept series dropped the Ice Haulers from their third place tie to a stagnant fourth place in the North Division.

The Ice Haulers had a 4-0 lead in game two of the series, but crumbled in the eighth and ninth innings. The lead started for the Ice Haulers in the second inning with Josh Kross advancing to first. Kross went on to steal second during Andrew Horvath’s at-bat which also landed him on base. Kross went on to steal third and home as well due to some wild pitching from the Monarchs K. Ballard. This started the scoring for Sandusky Bay.

Sandusky Bay continued their scoring in the third inning as well. Nathan Archer doubled on the third pitch shown and advanced to third base during Garett Pike’s at-bat, where he was put-out at first. Archer scored on a wild pitch during Josh Kross’s at-bat, and Kross also hit a solo homerun to right field to extend the lead to 3-0. Brady Renfro finished up the scoring for the Ice Haulers in the sixth inning due to some infield errors on the Monarchs as well as having two walked batters (Snider & Renfro).

Earning the start on the mound for the Ice Haulers for game two was Alexei Goldhill, right-handed pitcher from Oakland University. Goldhill threw for five innings and recorded two walked batters, four hits, and zero runs. After his reign on the mound the score line stood at 3-0.

Trouble struck in the eighth and ninth innings for Sandusky Bay. Some pitching changes came and went for the Bay bringing in Owen Kovacs, Cooper Donlin, and Tyler Munroe. Owen Kovacs pitched for two innings and recorded two hits, no runs, and three strikeouts. Cooper Donlin tallied three hits, three runs, and one walked batter in his single inning pitched. Finally, Tyler Munroe came in for relief in the ninth where the Monarchs walked-off with a win. Munroe tallied three hits and two runs to pick up the loss on the mound.

Game three did not end any differently for the Bay. The Monarchs led in the first inning due to a C. Coleman single which advanced home T. Nelson for a 1-0 lead. The Monarchs continued to score in the sixth and ninth innings. The sixth inning they scored one run and in the ninth inning they scored three to put a stamp on the series. The Ice Haulers sole run came from Josh Kross in the sixth inning. Kross was walked to first and stole second to get into scoring position. Eli Snider then doubled to center field which recorded an RBI for him and a run for the Ice Haulers, advancing home Kross. Final score for game three read as a 1-7 loss for the Bay.

The Ice Haulers will feature seven active players and two alternates in the North and South Division GLSCL All-Star Game on Tuesday July 12th. These nine players include Nathan Archer, Jacob Armsey, Jacob Boyd, Owen Kovacs, Josh Kross, Casey Maniglia, Garett Pike, Jace Rinehart and Ty Stolarski. Archer will be starting at center field, Kross will start as the catcher, Pike will start at right field, and Boyd will start as the pitcher for the North Division Team.

The Sandusky Bay Ice Haulers will not return to play until Thursday July 14th. Sandusky Bay will travel to Denison University in Granville, Ohio for interdivision play against the South Division’s first place team, the Licking County Settlers. The Settlers sit at nineteen wins and two losses while Sandusky Bay sits at fourteen wins and sixteen losses.
