The Sandusky Bay Ice Haulers entered today’s match-up with JetBox Baseball Club 2-0 in the series, only to fall in today’s match-up 8-4.
Scoring did not start until the top of the fifth inning when JetBox’s Ryan Lux, Junior at Eastern Michigan University, single batted in John Lauinger. JetBox hit their stride from there on as the Ice Haulers attempted to bring in Bobby Perebzak and Alec Mendoza for the save. The Ice Haulers started to rally in the bottom of the sixth inning with Andrew Horvath, Sophomore at the University of Akron, walk to first bringing in Garret Pike. Ty Stolarski, Sophomore at the University of Akron, also advanced two runners with his line drive through the gap in center field. Casey Maniglia, Junior at the Ohio State University, tallied four strikeouts in his four innings pitching. Orlando Loyd of Terra State Community College also tallied one strikeout in his two innings pitched. The Ice Haulers continued their run into the eighth inning, but could not overcome the fifth inning lull. The Ice Haulers will be back in action Tuesday June 14th against the Clippers. This home stand will span from June 14th through the 16th. First Pitch Tuesday will begin at 7PM.

The Sandusky Bay Ice Haulers took down Jetbox Baseball Club in game two of their three game series 3-0. The Ice Haulers got off to an early 1-0 start in the second inning when Michael Pollard, Sophomore at Saint Peter’s University, batted in Dom Magliocca, Sophomore at Miami University.
Defensively the Ice Haulers held JetBox Baseball Club to only five hits and no runs scored. Cameron Darrington, Freshman at Owens Community College, tallied three strikeouts in his four innings pitched earning the win on the mound for the Ice Haulers. Owen Kovacs, Junior at East Tennessee State University, came in for some relief, pitching three innings and tallying four strikeouts. Nathan Archer, Sophomore at Bowling Green State University, kept the scoring alive for the Ice Haulers in the eighth inning batting in Michael Pollard. The Ice Haulers will be back in action tomorrow afternoon to complete the three game series against JetBox Baseball Club. First Pitch is set for 5PM. The Sandusky Bay Ice Haulers get into the win column with tonight’s take down of Jet Box 11-2. The Ice Haulers hit and fielded well to keep Jet Box to only scoring in the first and third innings. Jet Box went on to finish with only five hits and 2 runs.
Jet Box’s Cole Daniels struggled in the first inning hitting 3 of the Ice Haulers to land them in scoring positions. Dom Magliocca, Sophomore at Miami University Hamilton, slapped home a double bringing in Mason Montgomery and Brady Renfro to show a scoreline of 5-1 to finish the inning. The Haulers were held to five runs until the bottom of the fifth inning where Magliocca brought in Andrew Horvath with a single. From there, the Ice Haulers went on to score four more runs and run away with the game in the seventh inning stretch. Archer went four for five at the plate and added three stolen bases along with a 2-run RBI in the seventh inning to secure the win. The Ice Haulers will be back in action tomorrow night for Game 2 of their series with JetBox. First-Pitch will be at 7:05PM. After a loss from Game one of the three game series, the Ice Haulers fell in game two 4-3. After a suspended game due to rain, the Haulers and Locos rested up to pick up from the top of the 3rd for the 9-inning regulation finish.
Pitcher, Francisco (Frankie) Olivarez, earned the start for the Haulers tallying one strikeout in his two innings pitched. The Haulers brought in three other pitchers to try to save the lead after Brayden White of the Lima Locos had a 2 run RBI in the top of the 5th inning. Matt Gauer, So. from Indiana State University, threw out 3 batters in a row to advance the Locos on to victory. Unfortunately for the Haulers, their scoring was halted at this point, but defensively kept the game to a 4-3 finish in favor of the Locos. The Haulers entered Game Three of the series with an 0-2 record. Scoring started early in Game 3 with Bryant Herring of the Lima Loco’s double which brought in 3 runners. The Ice Haulers tied it up in the bottom of the second inning with Michael Pollard scoring on a wild pitch. The Locos then went on to take the lead in the top of the third and didn’t slow down from there. Carson Garner of the Locos hit a screaming double to bring Cade Sadler of the Locos home. The Haulers struggled the fourth inning as the Locos brought in four more runners from there. The Haulers tried to rally in the bottom of the fourth and fifth innings, but their fourth inning lull was too steep to overcome. The Ice Haulers will be back at home tomorrow night at 7PM to take on JetBox. This series against JetBox will span from Friday June 10 through Sunday June 12 to conclude the Hauler’s first week in GLSCL play. The Ice Haulers opened their 2022 season with a tough home loss to the Lima Locos, 5-4. It was a defensive battle for the first five innings until The Locos put a run on the board with Cade Sadler getting batted in by Jake Hutchins.
The Ice Haulers would respond with a grand slam from Garret Pike, Senior at the University of Toledo, in the bottom of the sixth to put them up 4-1. That would be the extent of Ice Haulers scoring. The Locos then went on to score four more runs in the seventh and eighth innings to put them up 5-4. Casey Maniglia, Senior at The Ohio State University, had a solid start to the season. Pitching for four innings, Maniglia only gave up one hit, and did not allow a single run. He finished with six strikeouts. The Locos wasted no time, as they would strike with a three-run homerun in the first inning, as they took an early 3-0 lead. They would strike for two more runs in the fourth inning off an RBI double. Trailing 5-0, the Ice Haulers closed the gap, scoring three runs in the fifth inning. Bryce Richey (Junior, Tiffin University) would hit a groundball to the Loco pitcher. The pitcher would make an error throw to allow Braden Durham (Freshman, Seton Hill) to score. Then, Drew Holderbach (Senior, Marietta College) would hit a groundball to third. The third baseman would make an error throw to first base, allowing Zachary Campbell (Senior, Tiffin University), and Nick Mueller (Freshman, Texas A&M University – Corpus Christi) to score. Leading 5-3, the Locos got one more run in the sixth inning off a sacrifice fly. The Locos lead was now back to three, heading into the seventh inning. The Ice Haulers would fight to get two runs in the seventh inning, as Drew Holderbach and Mark Connelly (Sophomore, Lansing Community College) each had an RBI single. The Ice Haulers now trailed by just one run, with a score of 6-5. The Locos would get two more insurance runs in the ninth inning to seal the deal. The Locos would end Sandusky Bay’s season, with a score of 8-5. The Ice Haulers have now finished their first season as a franchise. They finished the regular season with 28 wins, and 14 losses. They also finished the regular season as North Division Champions. They will look to keep the tradition alive next season. Coming off a win in game one, the Ice Haulers were looking to close the semi-final series over the Lima Locos. Luke Lashutka (Freshman, St. Bonaventure University) got the call to start the game, as Sandusky Bay headed to Lima.
It would not take long for the Locos to strike first, as they hit a two-run homer to start the game. In the third inning, Zachary Campbell (Senior, Tiffin University) would put the Ice Haulers on the board, with an RBI single to score Dominic Magliocca (Freshman, Miami University). The Ice Haulers trailed the Locos, with a score of 2-1 heading into the fourth inning. The catcher, Braden Durham (Sophomore, Seton Hill University) would tie the game with an RBI single. The score between both teams were now two runs apiece, heading into the fifth inning. Zachary Campbell would come up big again, as he hit a solo homerun to give the Ice Haulers their first lead of the game. The score was now 3-2, in favor of the Ice Haulers. This homerun was Zachary Campbell’s first homerun of the entire season. The Locos would strike for three runs off Lashutka, to give themselves a 5-3 lead over the Ice Haulers. Lashutka would finish the game, going six innings. He struck out six Locos, while allowing four earned runs, four hits, and one walk. After Lashutka was relieved, the Locos would score two more runs to increase their lead to a 7-3 score. Heading into the final inning, the Ice Haulers would strike with a two-run blast, hit by Dominic Magliocca. This brought the Locos lead to just two runs. The Ice Haulers would get one more man in scoring position but would fail to capitalize the comeback situation. The Locos would finish the game with a win over the Ice Haulers, by a score of 7-5 to tie up the series. The Ice Haulers will return to Sandusky, hoping to close the series with a win, and clinch a championship spot. The first pitch will begin at 7:05pm at Sports Force Parks. Coming off a tough loss to the Galion Graders in the season finale, the Ice Haulers took on the well-contested Lima Locos, for the first round of the North Division Semi-finals. The ace pitcher, Landon Smiddy (Sophomore, East Tennessee State University) took the mound for Sandusky Bay in tonight’s game.
The Ice Haulers struck first, as Drew Holderbach (Senior, Marietta College) grounded into a double play to drive in Zachary Campbell (Senior, Tiffin University). The Ice Haulers led 1-0 after the first inning. The Locos would get a run back in the second inning to tie the game. Then, they would hit a solo shot in the third inning to make it a 2-1 game, in favor of the Locos. Drew Holderbach would have an RBI single in the third inning, to tie the game up at two runs apiece. Then, in the bottom of the fourth inning, Sandusky Bay would score two runs. The Locos would make two costly errors to give up a run, and Zachary Campbell would have an RBI groundout to score Dominic Magliocca (Freshman, Miami University). The Ice Haulers led 4-2 after the fourth inning. Sandusky Bay would drive in three runs in the fifth inning. Three Hillier (Freshman, Liberty University) would have his first three RBIs of the game with just one swing. His three-run bomb to right field made it a score of 7-2, in favor of the Ice Haulers. Hillier would have a three-RBI double, as he would finish the game with six RBIs. Hillier was a triple away from the cycle. “It felt great seeing that ball fly over the fence. This win was huge for us. The cycle would have been nice, just got to get a little faster,” Hillier said. Landon Smiddy would go six innings, striking out seven Locos, allowing two earned runs. Wesley Arrington (Freshman, Lynchburg College) would go the last three innings, fighting his way to a well earned save. The Ice Haulers won the first game of the series, with a score of 11-5. "We have the momentum, and we are going to keep it," Ray Neill (General Manager - Sandusky Bay Ice Haulers) said. The Ice Haulers will travel to Lima tomorrow for game two of the series. Mitchell Spencer (Sophomore, University of South Carolina Upstate) took the mound to start the game for Sandusky Bay, as Coach Clay planned on having a different pitcher for every inning played.
The Ice Haulers drew first blood, after an RBI fielder’s choice hit by Scott Mackiewicz (University of Toledo). His RBI drew Dominic Magliocca (Freshman, Miami University) to score. The next batter, Drew Holderbach hit an RBI single to left field to score Zachary Campbell (Senior, Tiffin University). The Ice Haulers led 2-0 going into the bottom of the second. In the bottom of the second, the Graders hit a two-run bomb off Nick Saranczak (Senior, West Virginia State University) to tie the game. The Ice Haulers would get those two runs back in the top of the fourth. Three Hillier (Freshman, Liberty University) scored on a wild pitch, then Bryce Richey (Junior, Tiffin University) hit an RBI double to score Dominic Magliocca. Leading 4-2, the Ice Haulers would give up a run, after an error in the infield. This run brought the Ice Hauler’s lead to just a single run. The Ice Haulers would once again take a two-run lead, as Scott Mackiewicz hit a sacrifice fly to score Zachary Campbell. Mackiewicz would finish the regular season with 51 RBIs. The Galion Graders would stun Gino Sabatine (Senior, Marietta College) in the seventh inning, as the Graders would score five runs off him, to make it an 8-5 lead for the Graders. The Ice Haulers would close the regular season with a loss to the Graders. However, the Ice Haulers are still focused, and ready for the playoffs. “We are not too worried about this loss. We still have the momentum after clinching the division, and we are ready to play Lima,” Ray Neill (Ice Haulers’ General Manager) said. The Sandusky Bay Ice Haulers will host the first game of the series against the Lima Locos, on Monday at 7:00pm. Coming into this game, the Sandusky Bay Ice Haulers were one victory away from clinching the North Division. The Ice Haulers headed to Royal Oak, hoping to get revenge on the Leprechauns. The last time Sandusky headed to Royal Oak, their long 14 game winning-streak was snapped in five innings, due to rain. Gino Sabatine (Senior, Marietta College) took the mound for Sandusky Bay, hoping to get his sixth win of the season.

Mark Connelly (University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee) and Drew Holderbach (Senior, Marietta College) both walked with the bases loaded, to get the first two RBIs of the game. Jordan Andrade (Freshman, University of Nevada Las Vegas) would come up with an RBI single to score Scott Mackiewicz (Freshman, University of Toledo), who was walked earlier in the inning also. The Leprechauns continued to struggle finding the strike-zone, as Nick Mueller (Freshman, Texas A&M – Corpus Christi) was also walked with the bases loaded. The Ice Haulers would lead after the first inning, with a score of 4-0. Sandusky Bay would continue to pour it on Royal Oak, as they obtained eight runs in the third inning. The Leprechauns continued to struggle throwing strikes, as four of the runs came from bases loaded walks, and two runs came from a couple hit-by-pitches with the bases loaded. However, the remaining runs came from Zachary Campbell (Senior, Tiffin University), who had a two-run single in the inning. Sandusky now led 12-0 after the third inning. The last run for the Ice Haulers came off a sacrifice fly, hit by Braden Durham (Sophomore, Seton Hill University). His fly ball to right field brought in Mark Connelly to score. On the mound, Gino Sabatine went six strong innings allowing no runs, four hits, and no walks. He also obtained five strikeouts, as the Ice Haulers won the game, with a score of 13-0. Sabatine currently stands at second in the league with strikeouts (52) and wins (6). The Ice Haulers are now officially the champions of the North Division, in the Great Lakes League. They will have home field advantage over the Lima Locos in the first round of the playoffs. First, they will compete in one last regular season game against the Galion Graders. Sandusky Bay will head to Galion on Saturday, hoping to close the regular season with a win. |
